RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in his fourth straight quality start for Stockton, allowing 5 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 6 shutout innings to earn his 3rd win on Thursday. And Friedrichs has now struck out 31 while failing to allow a walk in 25 innings over his last 4 starts for the Ports. Relievers Cody Stull, Lou Trivino and Carlos Navas each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief to close out the 6-hit shutout for Stockton. Catcher Iolana Akau singled, doubled and drove in a run, while shortstop Richie Martin and second baseman Mikey White each drove in a pair for the Ports. Meanwhile, A’s LHP Sean Manaea is scheduled to make Friday’s start on a rehab assignment with Stockton.

The Sounds were shut out on 6 hits in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader. Starter Chris Smith allowed 3 runs over 5 1/3 innings of work to suffer his 6th loss for the Sounds. Designated hitter Ryon Healy had a pair of singles, while first baseman Rangel Ravelo doubled, and center fielder Jaycob Brugman singled and stole a base in the loss. And in other news, after winning his last 7 starts, failing to allow an earned run over his last 25 1/3 innings and posting a 3.01 ERA on the season, Sounds starter Dillon Overton is set to make his major league debut for the A’s on Saturday.

Left fielder Matt McBride and second baseman Joey Wendle led the attack as the Sounds won the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader to split the twinbill. McBride and Wendle each singled, doubled, walked and drove in 3 runs for Nashville. Wendle drove in the Sounds’ first run in the 2nd inning, while McBride doubled with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 3rd to clear the bases and give Nashville a 4-run lead, and he then came around to score later in the same inning. Shortstop Tyler Ladendorf had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while rehabbing right fielder Josh Reddick went 1 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts in his third game with Nashville. Five Sounds relievers combined to complete the second game of the doubleheader. RHP Aaron Kurcz picked up the win despite allowing 2 runs in 2 innings of work, while RHP Tucker Healy got the final three outs to post his 5th save for the Sounds.

Starter Daniel Gossett was a bit wild on Thursday, walking 7 and uncorking 3 wild pitches while allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, and throwing a total of 77 pitches in just 3 innings of work for the RockHounds. RHP Trey Cochran-Gill picked up the win after allowing 1 run in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Jake Sanchez tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 4th save for the Hounds. Third baseman Matt Chapman doubled, hit his league-leading 17th home run and drove in 3 runs. Left fielder J.P. Sportman tripled and homered, while designated hitter Beau Taylor had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair, and catcher Carson Blair singled and walked in his first game back in action with Midland after missing almost two months with an oblique strain. Meanwhile, RockHounds RHP Raul Alcantara was placed on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder on Wednesday.

LHP Evan Manarino had a rare rough start for the Snappers, surrendering 5 runs, 4 earned, in just 2 2/3 innings to suffer his 3rd loss on Thursday. LHP Victor Veliz followed him on the mound and allowed just 1 hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Beloit batters managed just 3 hits on Thursday. Center fielder Justin Higley singled, doubled and walked, while catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled and scored the Snappers’ only run, and left fielder Skye Bolt went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts in his return from the disabled list. Meanwhile, Vermont RHPs Dustin Driver and Tyler Willman were both reassigned to Beloit on Thursday.

Last year’s 3rd-round draft pick for the A’s, 19-year-old RHP Dakota Chalmers, was solid in his second start for the Lake Monsters, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5 over 5 innings of work to earn his 1st professional win on Thursday. LHP Tyler Painton picked up the save after allowing 1 run in 2 innings of relief for Vermont. First baseman Miguel Mercedes had 3 hits, including a double, while second baseman Nate Mondou singled, doubled and walked, and left fielder Luis Barrera doubled, walked twice and drove in a pair. Meanwhile, Vermont RHPs Dustin Driver and Tyler Willman were both reassigned to Beloit, while LHPs Ivan Andueza and Derek Beasley were promoted to the Lake Monsters, and Vermont RHP Kevin Johnson announced his retirement on Thursday.

First baseman Charles Gould, this year’s 26th-round draft pick for the A’s, had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs to help the AZL A’s clinch their first win of the season on Thursday. 27th-round right fielder Cole Gruber had 2 hits, a walk, stole a base and drove in a run, while 18-year-old Venezuelan shortstop Jesus Lage singled, doubled, stole a base and scored twice. 10th-round RHP Mitchell Jordan started off the game with 1 scoreless inning of work in his pro debut, while 19-year-old Dominican RHP Wandisson Charles picked up the win despite allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, over 3 2/3 innings. RHP Yeudy Minaya tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames, and RHP Phillip Ortiz got the final six outs for the A’s. Meanwhile, LHPs Ivan Andueza and Derek Beasley were both promoted to the Lake Monsters on Thursday.
