The Sounds scored a season-high 13 runs on a season-high 19 hits as they won their fourth straight to sweep their 4-game series with Las Vegas on Thursday. Second baseman Joey Wendle led the hit parade with 4 hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple, and also walked and drove in 3 runs in the game. Left fielder Max Muncy and first baseman Ryon Healy each had 3 hits and homered, while shortstop Chad Pinder also collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair. Starter Chris Smith allowed 2 runs in 6 innings of work to earn his 3rd win for the Sounds, who now lead the American Southern Division by a game and a half over rival Round Rock.

Center fielder Brett Vertigan, who’s been revitalized since returning to the leadoff spot, had 3 of Midland’s 4 hits on the night, singling, doubling and homering for the Hounds.

Starter Brett Graves had a rough outing, allowing 10 runs, 8 earned, over 2 1/3 innings to take his 5th loss, while LHP Matt Stalcup gave up 9 runs in just 1 inning of relief. RHP Boomer Biegalski had his first shaky start this month for the Snappers, allowing 5 runs over 6 innings of work to suffer his 1st loss in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader. First baseman Chris Iriart doubled in a pair of runs to put Beloit on the board in the 3rd inning, while second baseman Jesus Lopez singled in a run in the 5th, and catcher Tom Gavitt and designated hitter Trent Gilbert had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers. In other news, RHP Michael Murray was added to the roster, while RHP Xavier Altamirano and outfielder Steven Pallares were both sent to extended spring training in Arizona on Wednesday.

RHP Kevin Johnson was solid in the second game of Thursday’s twinbill, tossing 4 scoreless frames for the Snappers, but LHP Mike Fagan was charged with 3 runs in relief, and LHP Jared Lyons surrendered the winning run in the top of the 5th inning to suffer his 2nd loss as the Snappers were swept in Thursday’s doubleheader. First baseman Chris Iriart doubled in a run, while designated hitter Trent Gilbert singled in a run, and third baseman Ryan Howell tripled and scored in the loss.
